The Coolest Place in the Yard

Each morning, after I watered the plants, the quail family would arrive. They gathered beneath the fruit tree where the damp soil stayed cool. One bird kept watch while the others rested quietly in the shade. In the desert, a little water and a patch of shade can make all the difference.
