Reading the Sky
One of the things I love most about Landfair Valley is the sky.
There are no tall buildings or forests to hide the horizon. In every direction, the land stretches for miles, and the weather announces itself long before it arrives. Thunderstorms, rain shafts, lightning, and distant clouds become part of the landscape.
Storms can build surprisingly fast. Within minutes, a clear evening can turn into rolling thunder, strong winds, and flashes of lightning across the valley. Sometimes the storms arrive overhead. Other times we simply watch curtains of rain drift across the valley without ever reaching us.
Living here has taught me to look up more often. The desert sky is never just a backdrop—it tells you what is coming. Some days it brings rain, some days only wind, and sometimes it puts on a show that reminds me just how vast this landscape really is.
